Ann Rinaldi

American author of young adult fiction, mainly historical. She was born in New York City in 1937. She had a strict father who was a newspaper manager and who was determined she should not enter the world of writing or newspapers. He even stopped her going to college. However, despite this, Ann was to eventually get a job on a newspaper and also become a novelist. According to her website she became interested in writing historical novels when her son became involved in war enactments.

Many of her books form the 'Great episodes' series of historical novels in which she combines real life history and characters with fictional characters and events. One of these is horse-themed. A far as I know this is the only equine-related book she has written and I do not know if she has any connection to horses herself.

Ann Rinaldi has her own website where you can find lots more about her.
